Like many families, transitioning the kids to a “distance learning” model is proving to be a lot more challenging than anyone anticipated. For those kids like ours, who have IEPs (Individualized Education Plans), its even MORE challenging! Our kids with IEPs typically get specialized, sometimes one-on-one therapy and special education accommodations as a matter of law, the “Individuals With Disabilities Education Act” or IDEA, for short. In a pandemic or national emergency, such as we are in today, requires a lot of flexibility and ingenuity, until things can get back on track.
